Case study
Year: 2022
Podcasting has grown drastically and steadily since it began in the early 2000s. The industry grew alongside the advent of smartphones, smart speakers (Amazon Alexa, Google Home, etc.), and in-dash entertainment systems. One reason for its success is the convenience that it offers. Considering that multitasking has become second nature to us, this medium allows us to get information while we continue with our daily lives, whether that’s commuting to work, cooking, or exercising.
As of June 2022, Apple Podcasts holds the number one spot with 39.4% of all podcast listeners and 43,089,053 podcast downloads. Spotify currently holds the number two spot with 26.4% of podcast users and 28,890,991 downloads.
Project goals
Organize and personalize user listening: make it easy to navigate your podcast library, download new episodes, bookmark shows, and browse your listening history.
Subscribe to favorite shows & get exclusive access: as some apps, like Apple Podcasts, you can even become a paid subscriber and get access to exclusive content.
Discover new podcasts: Finding a new favorite can feel like an impossible task with the vast array of podcasts on offer. Using filters and AI the app can tailor-made content for users, suggesting similar podcasts and creators.
After the sign up the user can choose his favorite podcast genres during the onboarding flow. This will allow him to have a personalized homepage with channels, podcast and creators suggestion.
In the explore section we find suggestions related to the Trending, Newest and Channels/Creators categories.
In addition to these sections, it is possible to search directly using the search bar.
In the home section we can find a list of unfinished episodes, so we can quickly resume listening without missing them.
The widget is designed to give a preview of the progress so that we have direct feedback of the actual missed listening time.
